My Inspirations for the Design of our House Plans

If you follow me on Instagram, I regularly post my interior or home design inspirations. Today, I wanted to showcase my main inspirations for our house plans.

Here are some photos that greatly influenced the design of the plans. Our house blends different styles, including industrial, farmhouse, Scandinavian and European. All the photos are from Pinterest (my best friend!). I've added a few notes to the left of the pictures to highlight particular design elements that I like. These notes were also helpful to guide our technologist from the start.

Modern exterior cladding

For the exterior of our house, we wanted a slightly more European look than a farmhouse. That's why we chose white brick and acrylic. The roof will be made of asphalt shingles for looks and cost (you have to cut somewhere!). We opted for black tiled windows for the whole house.

An abundant view of nature

It was clear to us that we wanted to feel in harmony with nature from the moment we entered. We also wanted to have two large front doors to let as much light as possible into the house. We chose solid wood doors, and I'll show you all of this very soon, but the pictures below will give you an idea of the look.

A modern kitchen in solid wood

The kitchen is the place where we want to invest the most. For us, this is the space where we will spend the most time and create the most memories. So here are the main inspirations for this room.

Living room and fireplace

The living room will be modern and very clean. Here are the different elements we will find in the living room: double doors next to the fireplace, integration of wooden beams and storage shelves to the right of the fireplace. The photos below give you a good idea of the overall look.

Stairs, natural stone integration, mudroom and outdoor fireplace

We will have a mudroom for its practicality. We needed extra storage, as the house will not have a basement. We decided to incorporate natural stone on the floor, as well as wooden cabinets. I have added additional photos to show you the look of other elements of the house, namely the outdoor fireplace, the staircase and the master bathroom.

I hope you enjoyed the inspirations as much as I did! Getting inspiration on Pinterest for each of the rooms was definitely a highlight of designing our house plans.

For my next post, I'm preparing a list of things to think about before meeting your technologist so that you're well prepared for that long awaited moment. I hope that my experience will help you with your home project. Because let's face it, this is probably one of the biggest projects of our lives!
