My favourite prenatal vitamins, probiotics and supplements during pregnancy.

As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I became even more interested in my health and that of my baby. I've always been a fan of all things health-related, but as soon as it was no longer just about me, but also about my little kibble, I wanted to inform myself as much as possible. So I geeked out on everything I now needed to support me during my pregnancy.

A million questions were running through my head: What prenatal vitamins should I take? Which ones are best for me? Can I continue taking probiotics? What can I take for energy during pregnancy? Which foods and supplements should I turn to?

After a few weeks and several tests, I've found my favorite products and wanted to share them with you.

These vitamins and supplements have helped me over the past few months with my energy levels, digestion and calf cramps (lol). That's right! Calf cramps are common during pregnancy and I've found a great solution!

Please note that I am not a health professional. So it's important to do your own research and consult your doctor to find out if these products are right for you.

Vitamins and supplements:

  1. Prenatal Vitamins - Garden of Life
I chose Garden of Life prenatal vitamins because they are a company I trust. Created from raw foods, these vitamins have not been subjected to high heat during production, and contain no synthetic binders, artificial flavors, sweeteners or additives. They're also filled with whole foods, a base of 23 fruits and vegetables.

    * They're often out of stock, so my #2 choice would be Thorne's prenatal vitamin. The composition of Ritual 's prenatal vitamins is also super good, but I personally had trouble digesting them.

  2. Omega - Nordic Naturals

Did you know that omegas support the development of your baby's brain and nervous system? These are specifically formulated for pregnancy, GMO-free and I digest them very well! It's also a nice, clean company whose products I recommend.

  3. Protein powder - Garden of Life

When we're pregnant, we need even more protein to support baby's development; protein is the basis for the development of every cell and the placenta. These protein powders are organic, contain probiotics and digestive enzymes, are low in sugar and delicious!

Digestive health:

4. Prenatal probiotics - Garden of Life
Did you know that taking probiotics is extremely beneficial during pregnancy? In the last trimester, and particularly in the month before delivery, probiotics help baby develop a healthy microbiota that will enable him to digest milk well and be less susceptible to infection. And for mom, digestion is always a little more difficult when pregnant, as baby takes up so much space. I've seen a real change in my digestion with these probiotics. They are gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, vegetarian and non-GMO.

5. Antacids - Tums
Over the past few months, the famous Tums have helped me with my heartburn.

To prevent calf cramps (take before bedtime):

6. Magnesium - Calm
I've got into the habit of adding this magnesium to my herbal tea at night. I like the flavor, it helps me sleep and it's a highly absorbable form of magnesium. Did you know that one of the most common effects of magnesium deficiency is muscle cramps (particularly in the calves)?

7. Electrolytes - Organika
Lack of potassium and minerals in general is also associated with muscle cramps. I like to take electrolytes when I'm on the move during the day, especially when I'm pregnant. The combination of magnesium and electrolytes completely eliminated my cramps at night. A real revelation for me! I also like Nuun Sport's Strawberry Lemonade electrolyte tablets.

For a better night's sleep:

8. Lemon balm herbal tea - Tradional Medicinals
I've been particularly sensitive to stress and anxiety since my pregnancy, as if my brain was spinning at a hundred miles an hour, all the time. So I turned to lemon balm, which has helped me with my sleep and anxiety in general. However, as very few studies have been carried out on lemon balm and pregnancy, I recommend that you discuss this with your doctor before consuming this herbal tea.

9. Lemon balm tincture - St-Francis Herb

To prepare for work:

10. Third Trimester Organic Herbal Tea - Earth Mama Organic
This Earth Mama Organics herbal tea was created as a tonic to care for mom during the third trimester. It's a safe and delicious blend of vitamin- and mineral-rich herbs traditionally used to prepare for childbirth and tone the uterus. These herbs include red raspberry leaf (a versatile pregnancy herb), iron-rich nettle, soothing chamomile and rosehip fruit (both rich in vitamins and bioflavonoids) and calcium-rich oat straw.
